Why Our Family Votes
A parent's reflection on the legacy of civic engagement.

Why We Vote
I vote because my grandmother could not. I vote because my mother marched so I could. I vote because someone bled so my children would not have to. When I step into the voting booth, I am not alone. I am walking in the footsteps of every ancestor who was denied this right and every generation that fought to secure it.
Why We Vote Together
I take my children with me because I want them to know that democracy is not a spectator sport. It is something you do. I want them to grow up seeing voting as normal as going to church, as routine as family dinner, as non-negotiable as showing up for the people you love.
Why It Matters
Our vote is our voice. And when we teach our children to use their voice—to research, to question, to participate, to show up—we are not just raising voters. We are raising citizens. We are raising the kind of people who will build the communities we all want to live in.
So this Election Day, go together. Take your kids. Take your stickers. And take your place in a legacy that is still being written.
