The Audacity of Participation
Why showing up is the most radical act of leadership.

Silence the Cynics
There is a narrative that says the system is broken, so why bother. I have heard it in boardrooms, at conferences, and in private conversations with leaders I respect. It is the most dangerous sentiment in our civic life. When good people disengage, the system does not stay broken—it gets captured by those who showed up.
Showing Up Is Strategy
As executives, we would never accept the logic that a market is too crowded to enter, so we should not compete. We would find the opening, the angle, the innovation. The same mindset must apply to civic engagement. The opening is participation. The angle is turnout. The innovation is sustained, year-round infrastructure.
Vote. Encourage your team to vote. Build the systems that make voting easy. And do it not because it is popular, but because it is the most fundamental act of leadership in a democracy: showing up for the community you serve.
